Key points

  • OVO’s Extra Support Package is now open for applications to provide tailored financial and practical help to customers facing hardship.
  • Support measures include direct credit top-ups, debt relief, energy-saving appliances like heated throws, and access to financial advice via Lightning Reach.
  • Customers can learn about available help at local community events, starting this week in Swansea and Newport, or by contacting the provider.

OVO has launched its winter support scheme for the 2026/2027 season, aimed at customers experiencing significant financial challenges. The package offers bespoke assistance tailored to individual household needs rather than a standard set of measures for all.

Applications for this support opened on Tuesday 27 October. OVO stated that the initiative is designed to help families manage higher energy costs following recent price cap changes and predicted increases for the coming year.

What support is available

The support package includes a range of measures, such as free energy-saving products like smart plugs, LED light bulbs, and heated throws, which the company notes cost roughly 3p per hour to operate. Other items available include thermos flasks, heat pads, and, in some cases, replacement white goods.

Financial aid is also available, including direct credit top-ups of £150 for eligible customers, which can be received alongside the Warm Home Discount. Additionally, the company is offering debt relief, extended repayment plans, and help with identifying unclaimed benefits.

Community events and eligibility

OVO is hosting in-person events across the UK to help customers understand the support available. These sessions allow attendees to speak directly with advisers about their specific circumstances and apply for assistance. The events have begun in Swansea and Newport, with further locations planned for the autumn and winter months.

While the bespoke financial and product support is aimed at OVO customers, the company noted that these community events are also open to non-customers seeking general energy-efficiency and debt advice.

What it means for you

  • If you are an OVO customer struggling with your energy bills, contact the provider to discuss your personal circumstances and determine your eligibility for support.
  • You may be able to access free energy-saving devices or debt advice. Check for local community events in your area to speak with advisers in person.
  • If you are not an OVO customer, you can still attend their community events to receive general energy-efficiency and debt guidance.
